CONSTRUCTION on Mernda's new fire station began last week with the turning of the first sod.
Yan Yean state Labor MP Danielle Green did the honours last Monday, declaring the new $1.45 million station would strengthen Mernda's fire fighting and emergency response capability.
“It will give the brigade the ability to respond to incidents in a timely manner as well as providing brigade members with modern training facilities,” she said.
The new station will have three vehicle bays and include training, meeting and office rooms.

It is set to be completed by March next year and will replace the present fire station, which is a tin shed.
Ms Green said the station makeover was part of the State Government's support of the CFA as plans for Mernda's growing urban population.
“Mernda Fire Station is located in one Melbourne's five growth corridors,” she said.
“The Brumby Government fully supports the CFA in its planning for urban growth.”
